Questions we hear from adults
About visits, fees, comfort and what to do in an emergency.
01Do you take my insurance?
It depends on your plan. Our How fees work page lists each type of plan and where we stand. Call us with your plan's name, and our front desk checks your benefits before your first visit and tells you what the plan says it covers.
02What if I don't have insurance?
You pay the fee for your visit. We give you a written estimate in advance, before treatment, at scheduling or at your exam. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.
03Do you accept Medi-Cal or CHIP?
Ask us. Coverage varies by plan, and we tell you plainly before you book whether we can see you under yours.
04Will it hurt?
Most people feel pressure, not pain. We numb the area before treatment, and you can raise a hand for a break at any time. We can't promise you won't feel anything, so tell us what worries you and we'll go over your options.
05How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
Your dentist decides, based on your exam, your history and your risk of decay and gum disease. X-rays use a small dose of radiation, and your dentist tells you why one is needed before it is taken.
06What is a deep cleaning?
A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) cleans below the gumline when your exam shows gum disease. Your dentist or hygienist tells you what they found, how many visits it takes and what it will cost first.
07Do you see children?
Our practice is built around adults. If you are bringing a child, call us and we'll tell you whether we can see them or refer you to a pediatric dentist.
08What counts as a dental emergency?
Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop is an emergency. Call 911 or go to an emergency room. For a broken or knocked-out tooth, or a sudden toothache, call us and we'll tell you what we can do.
09Do you offer sedation, and who gives it?
We offer local numbing and nitrous oxide. The dentist treating you gives both, and a trained team member stays in the room. We do not give deeper sedation here; if you need it, we refer you. Ask us which sedation permit your dentist holds.
10Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. After your exam your dentist lists the treatment, the visits it usually takes and what it will cost, in writing, before you decide. Ask for it at scheduling or at your visit.
11Do you speak languages other than English?
Tell us the language you prefer when you request a visit, and we'll tell you who on the team can help. You are welcome to bring a family member or an interpreter.
12How do I cancel or change a visit?
Call or text us as early as you can. Our front desk will move your visit and tell you whether the practice's cancellation policy applies; the policy is on your new-patient forms.
Still have a question?
Call us or send a message. Please keep medical details out of the form; we'll talk it through on the phone.
